Sheri fulla, 30, duly sworn, stated:-.

I went off duty at 2 p.m. I went to sleep and was awakened in my cabin about 6.30 by noise and shots. About seven men were outside my cabin firing at me. I was shot in three places simultaneously. I got up and tried to rush out. A "stink-pot" was thrown at me which burnt my jacket. The pirates shut me in my cabin and kept guard over me. Five men then rushed into the cabin and held me down while two ransacked the cabin. The pirates then went

off. About ten minutes later I came out and lay down outside my cabin. I was in great pain and everything was going round. I saw nothing of the pirates who

had all left the ship.

The two watchmen on duty have two Revolvers apiece. Those off duty none.

I hereby certify that 1 examined the body of Dr. MacDonald of

Wuchow at 1.40 p.m. on the 14th. day of July, 1906, on board the S.S."Sainan"

in Canton. Kigor Mortis was present,, there was blood about the scalp; there

was an external wound on left side of skull extending inwards and downwards through the brain for three and three quarter inches. There was also another wound in left iliac region of the abdomen passing obliquely downwards super- -ficially but without any apparent communication with the abdominal cavity. I believe both these wounds to have been caused by bullets and that death was instantaneous from the wound of the brain. I found no other marks of injury.
